The Autumn Retreat Tour at Arctic Hotel "Whale Coast"

The Barents Sea never freezes, but it can hardly be called warm: even in summer the surface temperature rarely exceeds 10 °C. For sailors working in cold waters and risking falling overboard, special hydrothermal suits were developed. In such gear you can remain on the water’s surface for hours — without feeling cold and without getting wet.
At sea these suits are designed to save lives (for example, in case of shipwreck), but in everyday life they let you experience an indescribable sensation of "floating weightlessly."

This experience can be compared to meditation. You feel the rhythm of the rolling sea. You hear the soft splash of waves and the occasional cry of birds. You sense the touch of fresh wind on your face. You look up into the blue sky — or close your eyes. At once you are in contact with the surrounding world and detached from it.

The hydrothermal suit does not restrict movement: if you wish, you can even swim in it. But it is far better to relax completely and "synchronize" with the rhythm of the vast northern sea. The set even includes a comfortable headrest that supports the natural curve of your neck.

Each floating session takes place near the shore and lasts about an hour. In the evening, the cedar bathhouse at the water’s edge awaits you. After steaming and breathing in the healing phytoncides, you can plunge into the Barents Sea and compare these invigorating sensations with the meditative "floating" in the hydrothermal suit.

"Whale Coast" operates speedboats, each taking up to 5−6 passengers. You can choose any available one. For maximum comfort during your whale-watching experience, we provide waterproof and windproof Fladen overalls.

The adventure lasts about 4 hours. We sail from Mala Volokovaya Bay into the open sea. Different whales inhabit these waters, but most often you will see minke whales (up to 10 meters long), bowhead whales, and sperm whales (up to 20 meters long). With binoculars in hand, we’ll scan the horizon for the back, fin, or tail of these majestic marine mammals. Researchers recognize whales by their tails, which are as unique as human fingerprints.

Spotting a whale — or, if you’re lucky, an entire group — we’ll try to get as close as possible. This is safe. After fully experiencing the presence of these sea giants and taking unforgettable photos, we return to shore. Even back in the bustle of the city, you’ll always remember that at the edge of the earth, these magnificent creatures live on.

After boating and ATV rides, it’s time for a true Arctic trek. Our goal is the scenic Musta-Tunturi Ridge, modest in height (just over 250 meters) but rich in history and beauty.

In Sami, Musta-Tunturi means "Black Mountain" — because when it rains, the granite outcrops instantly turn black. But under the morning sun, they shine brightly. From the ridge, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of numerous lakes that seem to float in the air. This is also a place of military glory: during World War II, the German army failed to cross into the Soviet Union at this single point.

We sail from Mala Volokovaya Bay into the open sea, admiring Cape Nemetsky — the northernmost point of mainland Europe — and the coast of Norway. The day before, Kamchatka crabs were caught for you in one of the local bays. Now, right in the open sea, they are prepared and served, perfectly paired with chilled white wine.

It’s a tasting you will never forget.

During the tour, each guest may visit the bathhouse on any day of their choice. Each participant is entitled to up to two group sessions (meaning the bathhouse is shared with other guests — it is not booked exclusively for individuals).
